Why did you join the Nashville LGBT Chamber:
I joined the Chamber because it's an important tool to help support local LGBTQ businesses. Aside from the networking opportunities, the Chamber has excellent professional development programs to help small businesses continue to grow. I've been a member all the way back to the NAPP days and certainly think the Nashville LGBT Chamber is making a huge difference in growing business opportunities, supporting diversity and inclusion efforts at mid-sized and larger businesses and supporting advocacy efforts for the community.
Tell us about Schmidt Government Solutions:
My firm provides government affairs and state lobbying services for businesses, trade associations and organizations. We help our clients connect with policymakers at all levels of government and help provide the expertise to achieve their policy goals. This includes developing lobbying grassroots efforts, direct lobbying of state and local level officials and advising clients on better utilizing their resources to pass, amend or stop legislation. I have a focus on healthcare in my practice but represent all types of organizations.
Why did you decide to certify your business as an LGBT Business Enterprise?
As someone who works with various government entities, I think it's important to avail yourself of programs that could grow your business. It's been interesting to see the programming provided by local governments and the Chamber to help boost LGBT enterprises.

My husband is the amazing CEO of the Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce and we have an awesome dog named Spooner. Seriously, LGBT Chamber members should know if they have a regulatory hurdle to overcome at the state or local level, don't think it's insurmountable, explore government affairs assistance as an option to work with the policymaking body and maybe you can overcome that challenge.
