The Weekly

Wrap Up

April 2, 2021

Your MEMBER ONLY email on all things the Chamber worked on this week

and what you need to know to get the most out of your membership.

Thank you for being a member.

During this time of national crisis, when information and connections are so important,

the Weekly Wrap-Up will be made available to members and non-members.

We are here for you and in this together.

CEO Brief

You should have received your Advocacy Update about an hour ago, I hope you read it. We don’t mean to spam you but we try to send that as a separate email so it can be shared, and it is just targeted to the Advocacy work we are doing. This Weekly Wrap-Up highlights our other work and important information for you as members. Both are coming to you at the end of a long week. I hope to relax a little this weekend and I hope you will too, and enjoy the Easter weekend if you celebrate.

As you saw in the action alert, we are working as hard as we can to advocate against discrimination and keep Tennessee a friendly place to work and live, to keep it “OPEN and EQUAL”.

That work is getting recognized. The article the Nashville Business Journal did this week was one of the best I had seen on breaking down the work we do and the potential fallout and economic harm Tennessee could face if discriminatory anti-LGBT passesIt was also great to see our work recognized by the Nashville Post on their InCharge list for Government/Politics. I know our message and our work is getting out there and being noticed, and hope that it is enough to help stop discrimination from passing further.

We made some big announcements this week!

The Pride in Business Awards are back in June to kick off Pride month. I am looking forward to celebrating the work of our members and community. We really need support for these awards as they are our biggest fundraiser of the year and after pausing membership dues for those that could not pay, to help them get through COVID fallout, we need to raise funds for the work we do.

We also announced Predators Pride Night! It is so exciting to have our first in-person event on the schedule. I find it fitting that Preds Pride Night in 2020 was the last in-person event we held and it will be our first event coming back! It is as important as ever to show that everyone is welcome to cheer on our team and that Hockey Is For Everyone!

Please make sure to check out our Transgender Day of Visibility programming we did, you can find it below. The conversation that I was able to have with our board member Olivia Hill and our former intern Jace Wilder, was one of the most fulfilling programs I have done. Our education around trans issues and lifting up trans voices is so important and needed and we will continue to do it.

Have a great weekend and thank you for supporting the Chamber.

TRANSGENDER DAY OF VISIBILITY

MARCH 31, 2021

On Wednesday, we celebrated Transgender Day of Visibility. We had an incredible response on social! Check out everything we did below:

Image

We heard from Olivia Hill and Jace Wilder on their stories and on trans issues. We must continue to hear from trans voices and educate ourselves on trans issues.

Image

NGLCC hosted a Transgender Day of Visibility Celebration on Tuesday where we heard from TGNC Certified LGBTBE suppliers and Task Force leaders.

Image

We want to highlight two of our Trans Board Members, Olivia Hill and Jake Martino. Thank you both for your service to our Chamber and for being your authentic and true self!

Image

For Transgender Day of Visibility, we asked everyone to take time to educate themselves on how to speak about transgender people.

Image

We saw a very welcome sign in Nashville! Mayor John Cooper showed that Nashville is an inclusive and welcoming place for trans people by lighting the bridge in the colors of the Transgender flag.

Image

Marisa Richmond and Brenda Gadd wrote an important piece in the Tennessean: TN Lawmakers: Stop trying to divide transgender and cisgender women.
