The Weekly

Wrap Up

April 8, 2022

What the Chamber worked on this week and what you need to know.

CEO Brief

Nominations have ended for the Pride In Business Awards. Did you submit a deserving individual or organization? Well if you submit one this weekend they will still be eligible. Nominees will receive an email with a questionnaire on Monday from us. We will then judge the results that we get back and we will be announcing the top three finalists in each category at a special event on Wednesday, May 11th!

Also at that special event on May 11th, we will be giving away over $60,000 in grants from the NGLCC and Grubhub to local businesses! Look for more information next week on what will be an exciting and memorable event.

Tuesday night we will be at Bridgestone arena for Predators Pride NightWe have sold over 700 tickets with the Pride Night code!! Pride programming is planned throughout the game, you don't want to miss this! You can still buy tickets. And to test if you are reading this email, the first 6 people that respond and say you do, will receive a pair of tickets to the game! With 75% of survey respondents saying they valued this email, we know these will go fast.

Congrats to our member Nashville Queer History for receiving a $25,000 grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation to tell queer storied here in Middle TN. We look forward to helping them with this incredible initiative.

Read more about all the other exciting things we have planned and are coming up with members below. Thanks for being a part of the Nashville LGBT Chamber.

ADVOCATE

Last week the Justice Department announced that it issued a letter to all state attorneys general reminding them of federal constitutional and statutory provisions that protect transgender youth against discrimination, including when those youth seek gender-affirming care. This letter has helped our coalition immensely this week helping slow down several bills.

We now have two bills we were working to stop sent to the General-Sub Committee. While they are not dead, this is a very positive move that makes it highly unlikely that these bills could pass. The “Youth Protection Act” and now the “Don't Say Gay V.2” are there.

The other bills on our Priority Bill List are up next week and we are engaged in stopping them. Several bills moved forward this week. The session is quickly winding down and we need everyone to engage now if you are going to do so. There is still a need and opportunity for the business voice to speak out directly to key leaders on this issue. Contact us to find out more.

***Take direct grassroots action! Our partners the Tennessee Equality Project have several campaigns active. We hope you will take action.
