Wrap Up

Your email on all things the Chamber worked on this week and what you need to know.

CEO Brief

2022 is off to a busy start! I look forward to pausing on Monday in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Day and reflecting on our slow societal march towards justice and equality, and how much work there is still left to do. I hope you can do the same. There are many events going on to observe the day, they can be found here.

The Tennessee General Assembly reconvened on Tuesday. We are not sure what to expect this year. There are still several bills from last session that could move and we will be carefully monitoring for new ones to be drafted. Read more in the ADVOCATE section below.

Want to support and sponsor our education program? There is still the opportunity chance to present Classroom Connect for the year. Reach out to us if you are interested.

Last Thursday I spoke to the current Leadership Nashville class for Business Day on if Nashville is working for everyone. It was an interesting conversation and there is much work to be done to ensure that it is. Leadership Nashville is an incredible program and I consider myself extremely fortunate to have gone through it. If you are interested in going through the program, you can apply here and I would love to talk with you more about it and nominate you.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the snow that looks to be on the way again.

The Tennessee General Assembly reconvened on Tuesday in Nashville. We attended an opening reception where we were able to speak with the Governor, legislators, business leaders, and lobbyists on what we might expect this year. The answer is we don’t know, but we do know we will be communicating and working together more than last year. We are committed to giving clear information on the legislation that will be proposed, and the economic and business impacts that come with it. We hope and expect the legislature will focus on big issues like redistricting, education funding, and fixing many issues with the COVID omnibus bill they passed last year in special session. This is an election year so we also expect a quick and shortened session.

Many anti-LGBT bills passed last year became law. Some of those are at different places in the courts and implementation. There are several other bills from last session that did not pass and could move quickly. For a full refresher of what happened and what is left you can read our Legislative Wrap Up from 2021. We will of course keep you up to date as things start moving forward this year.

Corporate Connect - Pride in Business

Our Corporate Connect group met this week and had a great discussion about leadership, legislative session, virtual events, communication, and more. Reach out to Lauren if you are interested in getting involved with this group of Pride ERG/BRG leaders!

HRC Corporate Equality Index scores will be released on January 27th. We look forward to highlighting our members who work hard to achieve perfect scores. If your corporation needs some help with best practices and to be updated on the changes to scoring for the upcoming year, join us on Wednesday, April 13th for Corporate Connect: HRC CEI: Getting to 100. This is a multi-LGBT chamber event that we are taking part in and really excited about it.

Classroom Connect - Grow with Google

Our education series is back for 2022 and this year we will be highlighting curriculum from Grow With Google. In a partnership with the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce NGLCC, we received a grant from Google to bring Grow With Google education to our members. We are excited to offer many different types of programming, taught by local/member experts to expand on the topic covered by Google, to you.

We want to know what YOU want to learn about. Fill out this survey to help us select the programs.
