June 25, 2021

Your MEMBER ONLY email on all things the Chamber worked on this week

and what you need to know to get the most out of your membership.

Thank you for being a member.

CEO Brief

Important info! Read this email! Not a Weekly to skim. You won't regret it.

I hope you saw our email about the ACLU of Tennessee filing a suit to challenge the anti-trans Bathroom Signage Bill and stop it from going into effect on July 1st. We are proud of the Chamber members that are plaintiffs. More information on this and how you can play a part in supporting the challenge in the Advocacy section below.

It was great to speak with many members this week about Pride and diversity and inclusion. Thanks to the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee for having us and for your membership.

There were several more educational and Pride programming events as well. The Tennessee Diversity Consortium held a panel on employee resource groups and their importance in business, and it was great to have board members Nikki Gibson of Dell, Terry Vo of Comcast, and Arianna Flax of Culture Shift Team join as well. Adrianna also taught our Classroom Connect program on the Business of Inclusion, check it out if you missed it. People3 also had a wonderful panel on Being LGBTQ+. And I was honored to moderate a national panel discussion for the ADL (Anti Defamation League) on Affective Allyship for the Trans Community, where four Southern trans activists were able to share their work and educate on this critical issue. We will be sharing recordings of all when they become available.

A big end to Pride Month events this week and next week. We are really excited for the SOLD OUT Pose for Pride Fashion Show Friday night! Saturday we have Orange Theory Brentwood Pride Workout and then the Bianca Page Way street dedication where we will be speaking about this historic event. Then the Nashville Soccer Club Pride Night! We have filled 3 large sections with Pride and are excited to see many members and friends. The first paid member that emails me will get two tickets in the Chambers section. (Why you should always read the whole email and not skim! ;-) Then Wednesday we are closing out the month with Pride In Local Music! You all are the first to see my tease from the beautiful Ryman Auditorium lit up in Rainbows!

Happy Pride!

The Nashville LGBT Chamber has been working with the ACLU of Tennessee to find businesses to challenge the anti-trans “Bathroom Signage Law” that was passed this year. We hope you saw the email earlier today with the details.

The Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce, the Human Rights Campaign, and the ACLU of Tennessee, are looking for businesses to sign an Amicus Brief (friend of the court brief) in support of the lawsuit challenge. Please let us know if you are interested in more information on this.

ACLU-TN is asking the court to stop enforcement of the law, including stopping the issuance of 30-day notices, while the lawsuit proceeds. Please let the ACLU know, if you receive a notice of non-compliance with the law. Email -  intake@aclu-tn.org

A Nashville judge on Tuesday ruled that 4 Good Government’s proposed charter revision cannot go before Davidson County voters on July 27, the second such defeat for the radical, super minority, anti-tax group in the past year. We were clear in our direct opposition that Nashville’s LGBTQ and other diverse and minority-owned small business communities would face significant setbacks in their efforts to expand economic opportunity and grow new businesses across the city if the reckless July referendum was successful. Read more here.

What an incredible end to our Classroom Connect Series! Our board member, Adrianna Flax of Culture Shift Team, led a great discussion on the business of inclusion. If you missed this program, you can watch the recording here.

We can’t thank our sponsor HCA Healthcare/TriStar Health enough for their support in this series. 11 Classroom Connect Programs were able to happen because of that support! Catch up on all programs here.
