CEO Brief

Lauren and I have been hard at work on many things, the Pride In Business Awards consumed the majority of our time this week. I can’t thank her enough for all her hard work on this project and all the Pride events. Now that the awards are done and the events are planned, we will be able to catch up on other work. I am sorry if you have an outstanding email from me waiting.

Pride In Business Awards -

What a day! It was great to hold the 2021 Pride in Business Awards today at Play with a small group in attendance and a large group joining us virtually online. We had some wonderfully moving acceptance speeches from the winners, and we heard some great updates about the Chamber and our work. I hope you will take a moment and watch them and celebrate their accomplishments.

We wanted to share this with you now, just hours after the event. You love all these emails I talked about, right?! (This refers to a joke I made in my CEO brief today.)

PRIDE Month! -

June is here and so is Pride Month. Happy Pride. I hope you saw my Pride message, we will be discussing the points in it throughout the month. Today’s awards made me think even more about some of the things I wrote about. Lauren sent you the calendar of events and I hope you are going to join us for many of them.

Get your tickets NOW for the Wine Dinner on Thursday and the Fashion Show on the 25th. Tickets are going fast for both of them and you don’t want to miss these awesome events. Soccer Pride Night also went on sale. See all the details below!

ADVOCATE

The fallout from the 5 anti-LGBT discriminatory laws that passed in TN is continuing. More and more people, organizations, and groups are learning of the legislation and voicing their outrage. The "bathroom signage law" continues to receive the most attention. It was revealed this week that the House sponsor, Rep. Rudd, lied to colleagues everyone else when he said there were no penalties in his bill. We warned of this issue and called him out when he stood on the House floor and said businesses were good with this bill.

We are still looking for plaintiffs for lawsuits to challenge the anti-trans bathroom signage bill that passed. We are working with the ACLU on this. Please contact me if you have inclusive bathroom policies and multi-stall restrooms in your business.

The Nashville LGBT Chamber joins a coalition of Nashville businesses, organizations, educators, faith leaders and others who have launched an effort called Save Nashville Now, which aims to stop what they call a “dangerous” charter referendum. Read the Press Release here.
