The Weekly

Wrap Up

March 4, 2022

What the Chamber worked on this week and what you need to know.

CEO Brief

It is official and you are hearing it here first… we are thrilled to announce that the 7th Annual Predators Pride Night will be held on Tuesday, April 12th! We met with the Nashville Predators this week to confirm and finalize all of the exciting details. A FULL press release, ticket links, and more will be released on Monday, but we wanted you to be the first to know! We have gotten a lot of calls and emails wondering when the annual tradition of making sure "Hockey Is For Everyone” at Predators Pride Night was coming back, and we can’t wait for you to see how much pride will be shown! Look for that email Monday and mark your calendars now!

We had a great meeting with the Nashville PRIDE board on Wednesday to discuss all the events we have coming up that we will be collaborating with them on. The Preds Pride Night, Nashville SC Pride Night, and many events in June and Pride month were discussed. We love working with our partners at Nashville Pride and can't wait to celebrate Pride with them and you!

One of the most important components of chamber work is collaboration. Our staff met with other Chambers in our area (Nashville Area Chamber, TLAC, Bellevue Harpeth Chamber, Hendersonville Chamber, and others) to talk about COVID-19 response, economic development, and how we can work together for the success of our members and the community.

The Pride in Business Awards are coming! Look for a big announcement on those soon!

Have a great weekend and enjoy this spring weather!

-Joe

ADVOCATE

Most of the bills we are working on were rolled to next week. We will be ready again to stop them. Our Priority Bill List are the main ones we are focused on but we are engaging on others with certain members. We have been working with our members to talk to committee members, and are hopeful that we will be able to stop most. We are thankful to all those that have engaged in direct action, testimony, and conversations this week.

If you went to a state university or have connections to the leadership of state universities, please contact Joe on how you can help stop a bill.

For individuals wanting to engage, our partners the Tennessee Equality Project have several campaigns active. We hope you will take action.

Large corporate businesses are being asked to sign the national letter that our partners Freedom For All Americans and the HRC are coordinating. This letter is being used here as a way to show the wide national objection to these bills from corporations.

EDUCATE

Besides the great educational opportunities listed below, we wanted to share with you some recent articles and news that you might be interested in.

This Gallup poll got lots of attention last year when it showed the increase in the overall LGBTQ population of the US, and how many LGBTQ people identify as bi. Those findings are even higher this year with a few.

Out Leadership has a fascinating study on LGBT workplace health. These findings take into account the impact on Covid and what employers and workers are facing as we return to the office.

Corporate Education Opportunities

Corporate Connect's Pride in Business group will meet next Tuesday, March 8th. This group will discuss how to get plugged into the Nashville Pride Festival and Parade and how to engage ERGs and BRGs. If you would like an invitation to this meeting, email Lauren.

Join fellow ERG leaders on Wednesday, April 13th for a small group session to share tips and walk through the application process for the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index. This session aims to help first-time applicants or companies below 100 reach that top score. In this session, ERG leaders across the country will share insights gained, challenges experienced, and top tips for reaching 100. Register now!
