CEO Brief -
What a strange new world. This first week of reopening in Nashville, and continued reopening nationwide, keeps showing us a lot about ourselves. I personally shake my head in disbelief as some continue to act as though nothing is wrong and we should return to a complete normal. I share this image I saw on social media that really resonated with me. I share it with you to think about.

We all have a lot of personal responsibility in how we respond to things. If someone isn't telling you to do something, you can still do the right and proven thing. It is your responsibility to wear a mask and encourage others to do the same. It is you as the consumer, at any business you go to, to demand they follow the rules and keep you safe. If they are not, you should leave and go somewhere that is. I am hearing from so many business owners/members that are working so hard to open responsibly and safely. Thank you!

We are taking this very seriously here at the Chamber as well. Our Board of Directors met on Tuesday and we are working hard to develop safe and important programming for the rest of the year. Two weeks from today we were supposed to be celebrating the incredible accomplishments of our community and members at the Pride in Business Awards Presented by AllianceBernstein. At least 700 of us were to gather at the JW Marriott and kick-off PRIDE month. This, of course, is not happening in two weeks and we are weighing heavily if it will at all.
  • Do we do an online version? Will anyone watch and will that truly honor those that should be honored?
  • Do we wait and hope to do a smaller event in October?
  • Do we just cancel and celebrate next year?
We need your HELP to make this decision. Tell us what you think. You should have all received an email from Lauren earlier this week with a survey asking you these questions and others about programming. This is all for you, the members and the community, and we need your input to help guide us.

I really enjoyed the AM Brewing Up Business Thursday morning. So great to connect and chat with members and friends about a number of topics. I hope you can join us Thursday for the PM Brewing Up Business. Then seeing the Blue Angels fly over our fair city was cool! It was great that they were here to honor our essential front line workers, they are heroes!

Have a great weekend and stay safe and healthy.
Coronavirus Response
The COVID-19 situation changes hour by hour. We are continuing to post updates and connections to resources on our social media. Please follow us there for new and immediate information updates.
During these uncertain times, the Nashville LGBT Chamber stands by you. We know that running a business right now is difficult no matter its size, from gig-workers to small businesses to our corporations, we are all in this together and we are there for you.
Every day, we are  advocating  for our members and working to  educate  and  connect  you to resources, information, and relief.
Online Learning Resources

We are collecting upcoming webinars, town halls, calls, and more on our Upcoming Learning Opportunities page. This is a great resource for anyone navigating the small business loan process, working from home for the first time, or just wanting to connect with the community.
In addition to upcoming learning opportunities, we are adding recordings and follow-up resources from previous webinars. Check these resources frequently for the latest information.

Follow-Up from This Week's Webinars
The city has issued an order urging everyone to  wear face coverings in public  and requiring employees at businesses to wear face coverings.

Businesses are required to  post signage about wearing face coverings . Signage in Spanish  and  English  has been provided by the Metro Nashville Public Health Department that you can print and post at your properties.

When you look at the data and transmission rates, and what wearing a mask if you are infected and you are not, it just makes sense and will become our new normal.
We are asking all our members and the rest of the LGBT community to join us in wearing your mask and showing your pride!

We will be coordinating with other LGBTQ+ groups on this campaign. We are asking for you to share pics of you wearing your rainbow mask and use the hashtags #WearYourMask #ShowUsYourMask and #RainbowMask.
New and Renewing Members
Please join us in welcoming the following NEW businesses and individuals that joined our Chamber this week:

What We Did
Thank you to everyone who attended our virtual AM Brewing Up Business on Thursday morning. We had great conversation and made valuable connections. Networking is more important now than ever!

Here are some follow-up items if you weren't able to join us:

Our board and staff met earlier this week. We are brainstorming ideas, programs, and events to best serve our members. We appreciate the work our board does, especially during these difficult time. They appreciate you the member, don't be surprised if you hear from them soon!
Blue Angels Fly Over Nashville
Did you see the Blue Angels fly over Nashville on Thursday? This was a salute for healthcare and frontline workers.
Thank you to everyone who joined Mayor John Cooper and the Nashville Metro Council LGBTQ Caucus webinar today. We will update our Webinar Follow-Up page once the recording is available.
Join us on Thursday, May 21st for Brewing Up Business! Come connect with our members and the community in virtual small groups. This is a free event for everyone, but registration is required.
Are you a small business owner impacted by COVID-19? Through a partnership between the Nashville Bar Association and Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services, volunteer attorneys are providing small business owners with free legal advice through a phone-based legal clinic. You can schedule a telephone appointment by answering questions on the intake form for a free 30-minute legal coaching session with a business attorney.
There are two important surveys we ask our members and the community to take:
Please take part in the Community Marketing & Insights (CMI) 14th Annual LGBTQ Community Survey! This survey takes 10-12 minutes and the data collected helps non-profits, universities, and other organizations better understand and serve the LGBTQ community.
The Nashville LGBT Chamber is hard at work to keep our community informed and connected. We are here for you at this uncertain time and we are nothing without our members. We want your input on our upcoming events and programs, including the Pride in Business Awards and the Rainbow Connection.
