We are here for you and in this together.

CEO Brief

As I wrote to you Thursday, the Tennessee legislative session has ended. The veto campaign to the Governor is still going strong and if you have not reached out please do so! The relief of having this almost over for this year is immense, the grief of what was passed weighs heavily on me. I am still trying to use it to energize me to work harder, I hope you will use it to engage and join this work, and I hope you will support the Chamber as much as you can for our ADVOCATE work as well as the other EDUCATE and CONNECT work we do.

Having session finally end I am hoping to not feel as burned out as I do. I thought it was from the amount of work we were doing around advocacy that was making me feel this way, but listening to this story from NPR, it sounds like so many of us are dealing with this. I am becoming a vocal supporter of mental health, after a year like we have just experienced we all need to take care of our mental health and not be ashamed. Check out the EDUCATE section below for additional information.

Something that really helped my mental health this week, getting to see and work with Lauren Bland in person! We were in the office together again and we got so much done that you just can’t do virtually, most of all connect and laugh. We also ate, our newest member Elliston Soda Shop invited us to come have lunch for their soft opening and we left STUFFED. The food and space are great, go check them out next week when they officially open.

Make sure to look at all our NEW MEMBERS below!! Wow!

Who is ready for PRIDE month?! We are getting ready. Join us Monday at 10am when we announce the lineup of events that we have in store for June. Want a tease here today? - 10 official Chamber events, a mix of virtual and in-person, all highlight our members and go to support our work. We can’t wait to tell you about them all Monday.

Pride in Business Awards judging is almost complete and we will be announcing the finalist next Friday. Join us for our live virtual announcement and then get ready to VOTE!

I hope you saw our Small Business Week posts that we shared on social. We love supporting our small business members and are so proud of them and their work. I want to thank Lauren for her incredible graphics and support to our members on this. Check out all the posts and deals.

You can also learn more about all of our LGBTBEs and how to get certified.

Speaking of deals (only for MEMBERS, that’s you), check out the Member Perks section below with awesome items from The Big Drag Bus and Clifton and Leopold.

Make sure you check our jobs board info below as well. Businesses need workers, I am hearing from so many in the city and region that can not fill open positions. There is real evidence that shows that some are not returning to work due to a number of factors. It is something to really look at and think about.

Have a great weekend and make sure to tell your momma that you love her on Mother’s Day this Sunday, you should actually tell her every day! I love you, mom! (we will see if she reads these like she says she does;-)

The first session of Tennessee’s 112th General Assembly gaveled to adjournment Wednesday night at 9:15 pm, it will resume at noon on January 11th, 2022. While the legislature is done, our work is not.

Please see the Advocacy Update sent earlier this week for a full report. Look for a full breakdown next week. Get ready to work harder next year.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month an initiative that amplifies fighting the stigma, providing support, educating communities and advocating for policies surrounding mental illness.

This year, the National Alliance on Mental Illness’s message is “You Are Not Alone.” With 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiencing mental illness, it’s vital to know that you aren’t alone and it’s okay to not be okay. We have been talking to you about this all year, and we will continue to do so.

Today, we are sharing local resources for mental health services + support for those who struggle with or know someone experiencing mental illness. Find them here.
