The Weekly

Wrap Up

November 5, 2021

Your email on all things the Chamber worked on this week and what you need to know.

CEO Brief

Fall is definitely upon us, we hope you had a good week and stayed warm.

The special legislative session last week, and fallout from the last general session, are helping us prepare for the legislature to convene again in January. We are going to have a busy year and are gearing up. Read more on Advocacy developments below and be ready to engage in the new year.

LGBT and other marginalized and diverse groups were discussed and represented at the statewide conference the Bureau of Workers Compensation put on this week. We were pleased to get to speak to so many workers comp leaders about the added issues facing marginalized groups when it comes to reporting and filing workers comp claims.

We wanted to recognize all the incredible leaders that were recently recognized and are connected to our chamber. I am honored to be among, board, members, and partners that were featured in all 7 categories of the Nashville Business Journal’s Power 100Our network works hard year-round to make Nashville a diverse and equitable place to do business. Help us congratulate these folks and check out the full list here.

This week, Lambda Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the ACLU of Tennessee filed a lawsuit challenging a Tennessee law excluding transgender youth from participating in school sports.

We worked hard to stop this bill from becoming law and we are hopeful the ACLU case will stop this discrimination from continuing against our trans youth. Read the full press release here.

The Tennessee Special Session on COVID19 policies ended, here is the information and policy changes we think our members should know about.

Businesses pushed back hard on many of the policies that were implemented. You can read more about the displeasure of the business community, it will be interesting to watch what comes of this.

Nashville Transgender Day of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, November 16th at Scarritt Bennett Chapel. This service will also stream via YouTube.
