Wrap Up

October 8, 2021

Your email on all things the Chamber worked on this week and what you need to know.

CEO Brief

Happy International Lesbian Day! We are so proud of the lesbian members of the Chamber working hard and representing.

We attended several events and worked on programming this week that was typical of pre-pandemic times, and we loved it.

The SBA administrator visited Nashville on Monday and came to our offices at the Entrepreneur Center. It was great to hear from her on the importance of small businesses and the support they are hopefully receiving that has been made available. We have worked hard to make sure our members are connected to that.

One of our newest members, the W Hotel Nashville opened its doors this week and we were honored to attend. The W has a long commitment to the LGBT community and we are looking forward to working with them. We are certain a Brewing Up Business is in the future there! Check out pictures and details below.

Nashville showed up for the Victory Fund reception Thursday night to support out LGBTQ+ candidates running for office. Our member the Virgin Hotel hosted over 150 people on their rooftop. We donated some of the generous night stays they gave us to help incentivize and raise money for the work of Victory. We thank Victory, the Virgin, and all in attendance, especially the out electeds, for their work.

Our longtime member and LGBT-owned business Tribe Nashville is having their regular Sunday Beer Bust and the Chamber is the beneficiary. Come drink beer and network with members on Sunday and listen to show tunes. Details below.

I want to thank all the members and volunteers that make the Chamber what it is. That especially goes towards our board members. We have some announcements below on board service, check it out!

Have a great weekend and let’s keep lowering the COVID cases and getting back to the new normal.

- Joe

Welcome Our New Board President, Terry Vo

We are proud to share that Terry Vo has taken over as President of the Nashville LGBT Chamber. Terry Vo is one of our longest serving board members and part of The External Affairs team at Comcast Cable Corporation. Terry is very active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for API Middle TN, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Middle Tennessee, Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, and President of the Chestnut Hill Neighborhood Association. She is also the Co-Founder of the Beautiful Bookworms Book Club. We are grateful for Terry’s service as President and on our board.

We also want to thank our outgoing President, Steph Ballou. Steph led the Chamber through the pandemic and helped us continue our programming during the past challenging months. We are grateful for Steph’s commitment to and leadership of the organization.

Congratulations to New Nashville Pride President, Mac Huffington

Mac Huffington, another of our longest serving board members, was recently elected President of Nashville Pride. If you have come to our events, you’ve probably met Mac. She is one of our greatest ambassadors in the community and a great bundle of energy. Unfortunately, she had to resign her role as a board member as she steps into her new role. We could not be prouder of her as she takes over the leadership of Nashville Pride. We know she will do great things for the organization, and we are looking forward to working more closely with Nashville Pride with her at the helm.

Do You Know Someone Who Would Be Great on Our Board? Is It You?

Board leadership is so important to the continued success and future of the Chamber and our community. If you or someone you know is interested in serving on our board, please email Terry Vo and let her know.

We are proud to join the Nashville Takes on COVID” campaign to increase vaccination rates and mask-wearing in our area to protect ourselves, our friends, and our family. You can learn more about this campaign by accessing this recording.

We attended the W Nashville grand opening. What a beautiful space! Thank you to the W team for joining us in the effort to make Nashville an inclusive place to live and work.

Victory Fund hosted an incredible reception last night at the Virgin Hotel. We celebrated the historic Tennessee election in 2020, the formation of the LGBTQ Caucus of the Nashville and Davidson County Metropolitan Council, and more. Cheers to shattering lavender ceilings!

Joe judged an amazing Lip Sync competition for our friends at Dell. They organized an international lineup of talent to kick off the Out and Equal conference. He was honored to judge and had a great time. We thank our Titanium member Dell for all they do for the community and the Chamber.
